b. 30 December 1959, Los Angeles, California, USA. Jackson began playing guitar at the age of 13, quickly establishing a reputation for his skill and sensitivity. Based in Los Angeles and a member of numerous studio bands from his mid-teens, Jackson played on many 70s and 80s R&B and pop sessions, as well as on a handful of jazz dates. Among the artists with whom he performed are Gerald Albright, Anita Baker, George Benson, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Earl Klugh, Patrice Rushen, the Temptations, Luther Vandross, Nancy Wilson and Bobby Womack. Encouraged and influenced by Benson and Klugh, Jackson began his own solo recording career in the mid-80s but it was not until a decade later that his smooth jazz style found great favour with audiences. In the meantime, he continued working as a respected and in-demand session musician. By the early years of the new century, Jackson’s musical maturity has found him to be a distinctive stylist with considerable technical skills.
