Brand New Girlfriend Blue Moon

b. 23 February 1972, Dallas, Texas, USA. One of a number of country neo-traditionalists to emerge in the early 00s, this US vocalist has enjoyed an up and down career punctuated by the occasional hit single. Holy began performing at high school but did not consider a music career until he reached his early twenties. He toured around the local country circuit during the mid-90s, eventually coming to the attention of noted producer Wilbur Rimes. Relocating to Nashville on Rimes’ advice, he landed a recording contract with Curb Records in 1998. Holy made his debut for the label two years later with the Rimes-produced Blue Moon. The album included the country hit ‘Good Morning Beautiful’, but of more note were two Holy co-writes, ‘Just A Kiss’ and ‘Someone’s Out To Get Me’. The former accentuated Holy’s Roy Orbison -styled vocals and became a sizeable hit in Europe. The album was only a moderate commercial hit, however, and a series of follow-up singles failed to repeat the success of ‘Good Morning Beautiful’. Curb kept faith with their artist, however, and were repaid when Holy returned to the upper regions of the country chart in 2006 with the title track from his follow-up, Brand New Girlfriend. The album was notably more upbeat than his debut.
