b. 30 March 1984, Glendora, California, USA. This US artist earned comparisons to fellow female singer-songwriters Tori Amos and Fiona Apple when she made her debut in 2005. Nalick began performing and writing songs in high school, although her stage experience with hard rock covers bands was in marked contrast to her singer-songwriter leanings. She continued making demo tapes in her spare time while at college before, in a career changing moment, one of her cassettes was handed to former Blind Melon members Christopher Thorn and Brad Smith. The duo, now working in production, contacted Nalick and invited her to re-record the songs from her demo in their studio. Remarkably she had landed a major label recording contract within a month of beginning work with Thorn and Smith. Her label, Columbia Records, teamed Nalick up with first-class session musicians to help record her debut album. The resulting Wreck Of The Day, which was released in spring 2005, was at times rather cloying but was nevertheless an impressive first effort. The album was preceded by stand-out track and notable US hit, ‘Breathe (2 A.M.)’.
