Boston, Massachusetts-based hip-hop duo who debuted with the singles ‘Be A Father To Your Child’ and ‘I Got To Have It’. The latter, with its engaging horn lick, was quickly pilfered as a sample by many other artists, becoming the number 1 hit in Billboard’s Hot Rap chart. ‘Be A Father To Your Child’ was also widely revered for its strong moral sentiments. DJ Cruz and Ed.Og (b. Edward Anderson, Roxbury, Massachusetts, USA) are the main cogs in Da Bulldogs, who followed up the singles by cutting a well-regarded debut album. Samples from the set have been repeatedly recycled by other hip-hop artists, notably Heavy D. Anderson’s lyrics span tales of the street and take on his own sexual chemistry, as advertised on the promotional singles for their second long-playing set, ‘Skinny Dip (Got It Goin’ On)’ and ‘Love Comes And Goes’. The latter was dedicated to those lost in street violence, who include Anderson’s father. With production expertise thrown in by Joe ‘Rhythm Nigga’ Mansfield, Diamond D and the Awesome 2 (Special K and Teddy Tedd), it proved a certain east coast hit. The Ed.Og acronym stands for Everyday Day, Other Girls, while the Bulldogs suffix represents Black United Leaders Living Directly On Groovin’ Sounds.
