The son of Mexican ranchera legend Vincente Fernandez, Alejandro Fernandez became a bona fide international superstar via his recordings in both traditional Mexican music and Latin pop. Fernandez began his career performing tejano and mariachi music, but crossed over into the mainstream with 1997’s ME ESTOY ENAMARADO, an album of sleek, commercially oriented Latin pop that topped the Billboard charts and spawned numerous singles. Fernandez never abandoned his roots, however, as the ranchera-based album MI VERDAD (1999) proved. He continued to alternate between Latin pop and Mexican traditional music on discs such as ENTRE TUS BRAZOS (2000) and ORIGENES (2001).
