b. 29 April 1947, Dayton, Ohio, USA. After the disbandment of Tommy James And The Shondells, James, the lead singer, produced New York group Alive And Kicking, whose ‘Tighter And Tighter’ reached the US Top 10. James himself then launched his solo career and after three minor hits, returned to the upper echelons of the chart in 1971 with the Top 5 hit ‘Draggin’ The Line’. Although the follow-up, ‘I’m Comin’ Home’ scraped into the Billboard Top 40, it was another nine years before he charted again with ‘Three Times In Love’, a million-seller in 1980. In the meantime, he pursued a variety of club dates, trading on a healthy repertoire of past Shondells hits.
