With roots in the northern Mexican state of Durango, the Chicago-based duranguense band Grupo Montez De Durango was founded in the mid-1990s, and has produced a steady stream of albums, becoming one of the most popular ensembles in the wide-ranging regional Mexican category. Renowned for its rollicking rhythms and bright keyboard melodies, the cowboy-hat-wearing act consistently appears on the U.S. Billboard charts, and boasts a large following on both sides of the border.
