Based in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, this Christian heavy metal band was formed in 1997 by Trevor McNevan (b. 17 July 1978, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada). Dave Smith (guitar), Tim Baxter (bass) and Christian Harvey (drums) joined him on the same year’s independent release That’s What People Do, which revealed a none-too-original sound based around the then popular nu metal blend of rap and rock. A number of musicians passed through the band’s ranks during the late 90s, but by the time of 2001’s Set It Off, the line-up had stabilised around McNevan, Jamie Aplin (guitar), Joel Bruyere (bass), and Steve Augustine (drums). A remastered version of the album was released in 2004 with five songs from That’s What People Do and a new track ‘Everyone Like Me’ added to the running order. Prior to this release, the band had confirmed its burgeoning reputation by signing to the American Christian rock label Tooth & Nail Records. Their debut for the label, 2003’s Phenomenon, marked a welcome departure from the rap-heavy sound of the earlier releases, and by the time the follow-up The Art Of Breaking was released in 2005 they had evolved into a mainstream hard rock band. Aplin left the band in 2007 after helping the band record their next studio album, The Flame In All Of Us. McNevan and Augustine also play together in the punk pop side project FM Static.
